This was the view just as the sun touched the horizon at Hapuna Beach as the volcanic fog (vog) moved in on the left side of the frame. The vog turned the lower part of the sky a surreal shade of red shade compared to the usual blue you would normally see. I made sure to capture the sand at the most reflective moment to bring even more of the sky into the picture.

Ahalanui is home to an incredible hot pool with water that is nearly body temperature. it also has some excellent coastal scenery and large breaking waves. Sunrise is the best time to see the drama at its best!

Hapuna Beach has been voted the #1 beach in the US more than once because the sand and water are just so perfect. Sometimes the volcanic fog, called 'vog' creates surreal sunsets like this!

The beach park at Laupahoehoe on the Hamakua coast of the Big Island of Hawaii is a perfect place to watch the large surf and drama of the sea. In 1946 and 1960, Tsunamis struck, and the power of the sea is still on full display here.

I had to hike down the 1,000ft road in the dark and then a mile out to this beach in order to see the sun rise. But it was SO worth it! Waipio valley is home to a few taro farmers and some wild animals and that is about it. It used to be heavily populated, but tsunamis proved to be too destructive so the people moved away.
